Maybe Syndicate improves on some of these aspects? From what I've seen most people are saying the big improvement is the zipline though, and I'm not sure removing the challenge of climbing tall landmarks is what the game needed to become more fun. But the gameplay is fairly mediocre at best, and the writing / mission structure has always been atrocious. I adore history, which is why I'll always have a soft spot for this franchise. an animation overhaul wasn't enough when they STILL relied on all those damn collectathons to pad the game out. I've played all of them except Rogue and Syndicate, loved the series from AC1 because of the potential, started getting tired of it with Brotherhood, HATED Revelations for being exactly the same game as Brotherhood with a different skin (all those damn shops to buy and renovate, again.), was excited for 3 but ended up disappointed when I realized new animations didn't solve the game's over reliance on collectathons and weak side quests to pad out fairly mundane stories, enjoyed Black Flag for the freedom it offered but quickly got tired of yet more collectathons, and was excited for Unity because I thought going back to a single Assassin in a big city to refocus would be great but again.

The seemingly reduced marketing campaign certainly didn't help. Yes the sales of this entry are suffering in the same way that AC4's sales suffered after 3. I feel it's just as dismissive to act dismiss the amount of changes that've happened over the series(along with the improvements) while referring to each game as "essentially the same thing." Especially if you haven't played the newest entries. For instance, how is the American Revolution in anyway shape or form the same style as the Caribbean or French Revolution? The activities are quite different, the aesthetic is incredibly different, even returning activities are quite different.
